Westcote Methodist Chapel was built in 1852 on a strip of land purchased for £3. Unfortunately no accounts of the building costs have survived. There were no major changes to the structure until it was modernised and an extension added in 1987. Further improvements and another extension was added in 2007. There is now a small kitchen, toilet facilities suitable for disabled people, a loop system with amplification and a data projector.
The Chapel is
one of 9 in the Chipping Norton Circuit. As with most churches the
congregation has varied over the years, dropping to 1 or 2 people in the
early 1970's. Currently there is a membership of 16 and a congregation
on Sunday morning of 25-40 people, with a pastoral roll of over 50. Every Sunday at 11a.m., second Sunday Family Service, children's Sunday Club, 3rd,4th and 5th Sundays. Also on the first Sunday there is Sunday Cafe at Upper Rissington Village Hall from 10.30am until 12 noon. Coffee, bacon rolls, toast and marmalade are served with children's activities throughout and an optional Christian DVD for adults.
Busy Bees, 3pm to 4.30pm, Mondays at Cotswold View. when a group of ladies make items for shoeboxes to send with Operation Christmas Child.
Prayer Meeting is on the first Monday of the month at 7.30pm. either in the Chapel or in members homes.
Sunday evening at 6pm a United Service with St Mary's Church Westcote. Which is held monthly on the second Sunday.
